Gwangju INNOPOLIS, registered as the 100th INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-Off!

- Tows the regional economic innovation through Public Technology Commercialization and Startup -

 

On 31st last month, Gwangju INNOPOLIS Headquarter of INNOPOLIS Foundation (Director of Headquarter, Han Sang-Mun) told that the 100th INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off was registered 7 years after designation.

 

The company that has been registered as the 100th INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off(Entire INNOPOLIS No. 631) in the Gwangju INNOPOLIS is Stemmore Inc., a subsidiary company of Yonsei University Technology Holdings Company established to develop and commercialize the hair loss medicine using fat stem cells and dermal papilla cells.

 

The INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off (hereinafter, ’Spin-off’) is a corporation established by investing the technology of public research institutes. 23 Spin-offs were registered in 2016, 40 Spin-offs were registered in 2017 and additional 17 Spin-offs will be registered till end of August 2018 and they are leading the regional economic activation and innovation.

 

As the establishment of Spin-offs has been increased, the qualitative result also appears. Total sales in 2017 was reported to be 16.4 billion Won and number of employees was 308 persons, and annual average increase rate of sales for recent 3 years (2013~2017) reached 126% and employment increase rate reached 101% showing steady growth.

Stemmore Inc. is a subsidiary company of Yonsei University Technology Holdings Company established in December 2015 transferred original technology from Yonsei University in order to commercialize excellent research deliverables of Yonsei University and vitalize the academy-industry cooperation.

 

Stemmore Inc. implemented to register itself as INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off to expand the business and cultivate a growth engine and was finally registered as the 100th INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off of Gwangju INNOPOLIS in August 2018 satisfying the registration requirements of INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off through additional investment of Yonsei University Technology Holdings Company and Korea University Technology Holdings Company.

 

Stemmore Inc. implements the registration of INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off, moved its head office to Gwangju INNOPOLIS from Incheon and has a plan to establish the mass production and sale system of cosmetics and shampoo through collaboration with cosmetics manufacturers located at Gwangju (Hightech 1 District and Nano District).

 

In addition, in May 2018, Stemmore Inc. has received additional investment approx. 500 million Won from public and private funds and accelerators such as ‘Gwangju Youth Startup Fund’ being recognized of its business value for R&D and product mass production plan, etc.

Stemmore has a plan to establish a close cooperation system with its mother company and associated institutions for continuous commercialization and pioneering the market, such that it expected to grow rapidly in the future.

 

Since 2011 where Gwangju INNOPOLIS has been established, the INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off in Gwangju INNOPOLIS has showed explosive increase nearly 200% annual and Gwangju INNOPOLIS headquarter is using various efforts in this year as well for continuous increase and qualitative growth of the INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-offs.

 

especially, Gwangju INNOPOLIS headquarter attracted the technologies or companies other than Gwangju INNOPOLIS, such as Stemmore Inc. to support registration as the INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-off, and

 

through which, total 28 INNOPOLIS Research Institute Spin-offs have been established and registered in Gwangju INNOPOLIS utilizing external technologies or companies to tow the regional economic vitalization.
