INNOPOLIS Daegu, breakthrough the 200th Spin-off company!
- Strengthening the foundation for local economic growth through direct commercialization of public technology -
INNOPOLIS Daegu (Director Oh Young-Hwan, hereinafter 'INNOPOLIS Daegu ') of the INNOPOLIS Foundation revealed, "it has established *200 Research Institute Spin-off companies in 10 years since its launch in 2011, To commemorate this, the signboard and registration certificate delivery ceremony was held at Yeungnam University."
Research Institute Spin-off company: A company established within INNOPOLIS with an investment of 10-20% or more in order to directly commercialize public technologies such as universities and research institutes.
INNOPOLIS Daegu' 200th spin-off company is MFST (CEO Gi-Dong Han), a subsidiary invested by Yeungnam University Technology Holdings to develop anti-stress drinks with high GABA content.
In particular, MFST Co., Ltd., the 1st subsidiary of Yeungnam University Technology Holdings Co., Ltd., is an example of a teacher start-up model. This year, it plans to establish a mass production system, obtain certification for sales, and secure a distribution system.
Since its inception, INNOPOLIS Daegu has established an annual average of 20 with a cumulative total of 200 (as of April 2021). This is the highest number among the rest of INNOPOLIS, and it strives to strengthen the economic revitalization of Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do and fast growth engines.
In 2019, the total sales of INNOPOLIS Daegu spin-off companies were about 50 billion won with 544 employment. Last year, only 24 research institute spin-off companies were established, and the average annual sales growth rate for the last five years (2015 to 2019) reached 100%.
As a representative performance example, Dream Ace, the 65th spin-off company, is a software (infotainment platform) development company for vehicles, leading the future of mobility by signing an MOU to establish a web technology service platform with Naver Whale and attracting 1.5 billion won investment from Korea Development Bank.
In addition, Enercamp Co., Ltd., the 86th, is a smart battery manufacturing company, taking off as an eco-friendly smart energy company by successfully entering the Amazon store and selling out and contributing to the No. 1 sales in the domestic B2C market.
Director Oh Young-Hwan of INNOPOLIS Daegu said, “Spin-off companies, which
are successful models for using public technology and technology startups, are driving innovative local growth. We will do our best to provide intensive management and support.”
