- Spent time in harmony with the families of INNOPOLIS in celebration of the New Year of the Rabbit-

Daedeok INNOPOLIS's 50th anniversary, sharing INNOPOLIS's commitment and passion to prepare for the new future 50 years-

The 2023 INNOPOLIS New Year's Meeting hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-Ho, hereinafter 'MSIT') and supervised by the Korea Innovation Foundation (president Kang Byung-Sam) was held at 14:00 at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) on January 30 (Mon). This New Year's Meeting was prepared as a place to look back on the efforts and achievements of the past 50 years of INNOPOLIS, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, and to prepare for a new leap forward as a base for science and technology innovation connecting countries and regions in the new year and preparing for the next 50 years.

In this event, about 100 people attended, including MSIT Minister Lee Jong-Ho, Daejeon Metropolitan City Mayor Lee Jang-Woo, Korean Intellectual Property Office Commissioner Lee In-Sil, Korea Innovation Foundation president Kang Byung-sam, and representatives of related organizations, government-funded research institutes, universities, and companies.

On this day, the New Year's party began with a special lecture by Professor Kwak Jae-Sik of Soongsil Cyber University, who has appeared in programs such as SBS's "While You're Being Tempted" and tvN's "Alseulchukjob," has gained public recognition, emphasizing the importance of 'carbon neutrality and climate change.' And a commemorative video containing the major achievements and future vision of INNOPOLIS continued, followed by a hologram ceremony attended by key guests. The event concluded with New Year's wishes among the participants.

INNOPOLIS is a district designated to create new technologies, spread achievements, and promote commercialization based on the R&D of public research institutes. Five regional INNOPOLIS* including Daedeok INNOPOLIS and 14 small hidden INNOPOLIS** have been designated.

* Daedeok ('05), Gwangju ('11), Daegu ('11), Busan ('12), Jeonbuk ('15)

** 2019: Ansan, Gimhae, Jinju, Changwon, Pohang, Cheongju

2020:  Ulju, Cheonan/Asan, Gunsan, Gumi, Naju, Hongreung In 2022:  Chuncheon, Incheon Seo-gu

The government comprehensively supports financial projects (R&BD, infrastructure)* and tax reduction (Article 14 of the 「Special Zone Act」) to foster INNOPOLIS as an innovation cluster that creates a virtuous cycle of 'technology→startup→growth.' In the meantime, various institutional improvements have been made, such as easing the equity ratio for the establishment of a spin-off company (10-20% depending on the size → 10% in bulk), simplifying the INNOPOLIS move-in procedure (up to 40 days → within 14 days), and easing building regulations. In addition, by establishing the 5th INNOPOLIS fundraising plan of KRW 230 billion** ('22.7), it has supported the growth of spin-off companies in various ways, such as linking accelerator companies' investments**.

* Budget in ’18~’22: (INNOPOLIS fostering, R&BD) KRW 408.7 billion, (infrastructure establishment, infrastructure) KRW 48.7 billion

** Newly created INNOPOLIS Regional Innovation Growth Fund of 60.3 billion won in 2022

***Successfully achieved investment linkage of 19.1 billion won in 2022 through support for corporate growth and operation of professional accelerators. In addition, after the introduction of the ‘INNOPOLIS New Technology Demonstration Exception’ that prevents all or part of new technology-related regulations from being applied within INNOPOLIS (‘21.3), an environment for technological innovation without worrying about rules, such as designating 15 special regulatory tasks* for all fields of science and technology, is being created.
