Korea Innovation Foundation held a New Year Greeting of 2022

- One step jump to the forward base of Future Technology Innovation and Digital Great Transformation! -

The Korea Innovation Foundation's New Year Greeting for 2022 hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister: Lim Hye-Sook,“Ministry of Science and ICT”) and supervised by the Korea Innovation Foundation (Kang Byung-Sam, President) was held on January 24 (Mon) at 15:00 at Daejeon Hotel ICC.

This New Year Greeting was prepared as a place to reflect the efforts and achievements of the Korea Innovation Foundation over the past five years and to make a new leap forward as a base for future technological innovation and digital great transformation in the new year of 2022.

This event was attended by about 80 people, including Lim Hye-Sook, Minister of Science and ICT, National Assembly members, Head of Daejeon local government, representatives of science and technology-related organizations, government-funded research institutes, and universities and companies.

The event started with a special lecture emphasizing the importance of 'science technology and communication' by Dr. Jang Dong-Seon, widely known as a 'Empathic brain scientist' and led to commemorative video containing major achievements and future visions of Korea Innovation Foundation, and ceremony where important VIPs participated, and ended by sharing New Year's wishes among the attendees.

Above all, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we thoroughly followed the quarantine guidelines, such as the introduction of an inoculation certificate and a voice confirmation system, and maintaining a distance between participants.

INNOPOLIS(R&D Special Zones) are districts created for new technologies, spread results, and promote commercialization based on R&D of public research institutes. Currently, there are 5 special zones* including the Daedeok, and 12 Innotowns**.

* Daeduk (2005), Gwangju (2011), Daegu (2011), Busan (2012), Jeonbuk (2015)

** Ansan, Gimhae, Jinju, Changwon, Pohang, Cheongju (in 2019), Ulju, Cheonan / Asan, Gunsan, Gumi, Naju, Hongneung (in 2020)

The government comprehensively supported the INNOPOLIS with financial projects (R&BD, infrastructure construction)* and tax reductions & exemptions (Article 14 of the Special Zone Act) to foster the INNOPOLIS to an innovation cluster that circulates in a virtuous cycle of 'technology start-up growth', increasing subjects of the research companies (additional research-oriented hospitals and some public institutions) and reducing the share of establishment (depending on the size 10~20% collectively 10%), simplifying the entering procedure to the INNOPOLIS (up to 40 days within 14 days) and building various institutional improvement measures such as deregulation.

* Budget for 2017-2021: 484.5 billion won for INNOPOLIS development, R&BD and 60.6 billion won for INNOPOLIS infrastructure construction and infrastructure.

In addition, the INNOPOLIS, as small and self-sufficient regional innovation cluster, spread INNOPOLIS to the basic autonomy levels by introducing the Innotown model* (from July 2018), and a deregulated new technology demonstration(testbed) system (March 2021) and designated first cases for demonstration (December '21) making a great contribution to creating an innovative environment free from regulatory concerns.

* The area of the ‘space’ for the corporate occupancy limited to less than 2km2, and the separation distance between 'technology core institution' and ‘space’(corporate) should be within 3km to improve integration.

As a result, since 2017, the number of companies occupied in INNOPOLIS has grown by 1.6 times and the number of sales and employees has grown by 1.3 times.
