- Taking the First Step to Attract Real Investment Resources in the Busan Area -
□ The Busan Innopolis of the INNOPOLIS Foundation (hereinafter referred to as Busan Innopolis ) announced that, as part of the second Fly Asia 2023 event, it hosted the LP (Limited Partners) Summit in collaboration with Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Technopark (Busan TP), and Busan University Holdings (BUH).
□ This event was the first of its kind in the Busan region, with the goal of attracting real investment resources (LPs) to support the scale-up of tech-innovative companies in the region, which have been relatively underserved compared to the metropolitan area. The event also aimed to spread a technology finance culture within the region.
○ In the past, efforts to attract investment for innovative companies in Busan primarily focused on showcasing startups to fund managers (GPs) through investment pitches (IR). However, there has been limited progress in establishing and activating a financial collaboration platform led by the region.
* LP: Limited Partners, individuals or institutions that contribute capital to a fund.
GP: General Partners, institutions that manage and invest the capital contributed by LPs.
□ To address this, since April, the Busan Innopolis Headquarters has been operating a technology finance council in collaboration with Busan TP and BUH, gathering and incorporating venture investment opinions from investment institutions such as Local Government Officials’ Pension Service, Korea Development Bank, ShinYoung Securities, and Hyundai Motor Securities.
□ The event featured participation from 31 domestic and international LPs, including the National Pension Service and Singapore's Leoni Hill Capital.
○ Additionally, the summit provided a platform for building real collaborative networks between LPs interested in investing in the Busan region and fund managers (GPs).
□ Yoo Jin-Hyuk, Director of the Busan Innopolis, stated, "To revitalize regional technology finance, it is essential to continuously strengthen engagement with central investment management institutions that are interested in investing in Busan and technology startups." He added, "In order to expand the deep tech startup pool and secure follow-up investments from venture capital, we plan to gradually expand the technology finance council and continue the exchange of information on innovative companies and investment trends."
