- Utilizing KIMM's Research Capabilities to Activate the Public Technology Commercialization Ecosystem -

□ The Innopolis Foundation (Chairman Byeong-Sam Kang, hereinafter referred to as “the Foundation”) and the Busan INNOPOLIS (hereinafter referred to as “Busan INNOPOLIS Headquarters”) announced that they held the “2023 Innopolis Foundation-Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (Busan Center) ESG Strategic Area Open Lab” event on the 26th at the Busan Global Tech Biz Center in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (President Sung-Jin Park, hereinafter referred to as “KIMM”) and its Busan Machinery Technology Center (hereinafter referred to as “Busan Center”).

 

ㅇ The “ESG Open Lab” event featured three research labs from KIMM’s Busan Center (located in the Busan INNOPOLIS Mieum R&D Hub Complex*): the Laser Technology Commercialization Lab, the Automotive Parts Commercialization Lab, and the Nuclear Equipment Verification Lab. These labs presented ways to utilize high-performance reliability testing and evaluation equipment.

 

* The Mieum R&D Hub Complex in Busan's Gangseo District houses 14 centers from 9 organizations, including Busan INNOPOLIS, KIMM, KOMERI, KITECH, DYTEC, Busan Techno Park, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Korea Maritime University, and the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO).

 

□ In response to changes in strategic technologies due to recent international developments, the Innopolis Foundation and KIMM are focusing on investments and support for technology development and commercialization in ESG strategic areas to enhance the high value-added nature of the machinery components and materials industry.

 

ㅇ The Innopolis Foundation introduced public technology commercialization support systems, including ①deep-tech linked investments, while KIMM’s Busan Center provided ② information on support systems for research institutes and conducted ③ a lab tour showcasing their equipment.

 

□ Jin-Hyeok Yoo, Director of Busan INNOPOLIS, stated, “The use of high-reliability, high-cost equipment plays a crucial role in scaling up deep-tech and increasing the chances of successful technology commercialization. We hope that the Open Lab event, utilizing KIMM's research capabilities, will act as a bridge in the technology commercialization ecosystem.”
