- Daedeok INNOPOLIS, prepared an opportunity to publicize its 50th anniversary worldwide -

 

□ The Korea Innovation Foundation (hereinafter ‘Foundation,’ President Kang Byung- Sam) announced that Daedeok INNOPOLIS had been confirmed as the venue for the 2023 Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP).

 

 ○ Established in 1984, IASP (Secretariat, Malaga, Spain), a consultative body of organizations related to 350 innovation clusters in 70 countries around the world, runs a total of six regional groups, including the Asia-Pacific region to which Korea belongs.

 

□ The Foundation signed an agreement with the IASP Secretariat on September 27 (Tuesday) in Spain to host the 2023 Asia-Pacific (hereinafter referred to as “Asia-Pacific”) regional Conference. Following Bangkok, Thailand (2012) and Hong Kong, China (2016), which held the General Conference in the Asia-Pacific region before COVID-19, Daedeok INNOPOLIS in Korea became the first Asia-Pacific General Conference in the post-COVID-19 era.

 

 ○ With this, the Foundation will successfully host the IASP Regional Conference in 2023, when Daedeok INNOPOLIS celebrates its 50th anniversary, taking an opportunity to internationally publicize the history of INNOPOLIS Daedeok, starting from the Daedeok Research Complex in the 1970s and transforming into today's innovation cluster.

 

□ In particular, next year's IASP regional meeting is meaningful in that it can serve as an opportunity to spread the Foundation's know-how in development, management, and fostering over the past 50 years to countries that are late in the innovation cluster policy.

 

 ○ The 'Korean Science Park (K-STP)' program, a knowledge transfer training course of Daedeok INNOPOLIS operated by the foundation, started operation in 2008. As of the end of September 2022, 451 science park officials from 71 countries participated.

 

 ○ At the 2023 Daedeok IASP Asia-Pacific Regional CongresConference, a session will be organized to share successful science park experiences in the Asia-Pacific region, including Daedeok INNOPOLIS, with stakeholders in the area.

 

□ The hosting of the IASP Asia-Pacific Regional Congress in  Daedeok INNOPOLIS is expected to enhance the global status of Daejeon, the city of science, contributing to the promotion of the international convention industry in Daejeon.

 

 ○ ``It is expected that about 200 foreign innovation institute officials will visit Daedeok INNOPOLIS to attend the IASP regional Conference. The IASP regional Conference is held for two nights and three days, but various events commemorating the 50th anniversary of INNOPOLIS Daedek are scheduled to be held together in the same week. Thus, It is expected that IASP regional Conference participants will stay in INNOPOLIS Daedeok for around five days on average.

 

□ Kang Byung-Sam, President of the Foundation, said, “I am delighted to host the global event of the IASP Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in the meaningful year of the 50th anniversary of the INNOPOLIS Daedeok R&D, and the Foundation will strive to enhance the international status of the Foundation as a world-class innovation cluster.”
